WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Both deputies injured in a shooting last week have been released from the hospital and are recovering at home.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is also sharing the deputies’ identities in a social media post.
Deputy Ryan Rathbun is a 16-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, having served as a Field Training Officer, a member of the Criminal Interdiction Team and the SWAT team.
He has also served as a Foothills Neighborhood Deputy and is a First Aid/CPR Instructor.
Deputy Jason Thompson has been with the sheriff’s office for 13 years and is currently the South Lake Whatcom Neighborhood Deputy.
He’s also a member of the Crisis Negotiations Team and has served on the Criminal Interdiction Team.
Both deputies were shot while responding to a neighborhood dispute in Whatcom County’s Peaceful Valley area last Thursday.
The suspect is jailed on attempted first degree murder charges.
Online funding drives have been set up to support both officers.
