FERNDALE, Wash. – The City of Ferndale is ready to start construction on the new Thornton Overpass bridge.

Communications officer Riley Sweeney says the soil embankment that will support the structure has settled and work will begin soon.

The city will also start utility work and paving on Thornton Street between Vista Drive and Malloy Avenue.

Over the last year, Strider Construction completed work on wetland mitigation and installed thousands of feet of new public utility infrastructure leading up to the overpass.

The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
