OLYMPIA, Wash. – Next week is Invasive Species Awareness week in Washington State.
Governor Inslee proclaimed the awareness week last Thursday, and he’s encouraging Washingtonians to learn more about preventing the spread of non-native species.
The week will include a series of webinars and events aimed at spreading information on specific species that have negatively impacted the Evergreen State.
Right here in Whatcom County, crews are working to halt the spread the European green crab and the Asian giant hornet, among others.
Some easy things you can do to help prevent the spread of invasive species include cleaning your boots off between hikes, buying firewood near where you plan to burn it, and plant only non-invasive plants in your garden.
