BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A new location for a national boat club will be dropping its anchors in Bellingham this spring.

Freedom Boat Club, which has several locations along the Washington Coast, will officially open on May 1st in the Port of Bellingham.

Franchise owner Shawn Ottenbreit, who also owns the club’s Anacortes location, says that their expansive network is what makes them stand out from other clubs.

“We have the largest fleet,” said Ottenbreit. “We have over 4,000 boats and 300 locations worldwide. So members can use any of those locations.”

Members can enjoy a wide variety of boats, including pocket cruisers and bowriders.

“We’ll be starting up in Bellingham with really nice mix of brand new boats in the 20 to 25 foot range,” said Ottenbreit.

He adds that their members will be trained by certified instructors on how to use their vessel of choice.

He says that the convenience of not having to maintain a boat is a high selling point for their members.

“The combination of being able to train people and get them comfortable on a boat, and still have a large enough vessel that they can enjoy and performs well in the local waters,” said Ottenbreit.  “They can go out and enjoy the San Juan Islands.”
