WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The cost to fill up at the pump has officially hit record levels in Washington State.
According to AAA, the average cost to fill up in the state is running drivers about $4.55 per gallon.
Q13 reports that the previous record was set back in July of 2008, when the average hovered around $4.10 per gallon.
In Whatcom County, the average gallon of gas is just behind the state average at $4.49.
Nationally, the average gas price is just over the $4 mark at $4.17.
Prices have skyrocketed as a result of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine and demand is expected to grow as the weather warms up.
We haven’t reached our local record in Bellingham.
That was set at $4.50 per gallon in 2008.
