OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington lawmakers are wrapping up their work before they adjourn their 60-day legislative session.

Final votes were held yesterday, Wednesday, March 9th, on a supplemental state budget and a transportation revenue package .

The $64.1 billion supplemental budget builds off of a $59 billion, two-year spending plan adopted by the Legislature last year.

Under the budget, a variety of areas would see significant funding, including efforts on reducing homelessness, behavioral health services, and rental and utility assistance.

The Legislature also agreed on $17 billion in transportation spending, otherwise known as the “Move Ahead Washington” package.

At least 3 major projects in Whatcom County will receive funding through the transportation package.

$14 million will be earmarked to elevate a portion of Slater Rd over the next few years.

The Whatcom Transportation Authority will also receive $5 million from the package to expand and update the Bellingham Station.

And the Lummi Island Ferry System would see $5.3 million in funding to modernize operations.
