WASHINGTON, D.C. – We could be closer to never having to “fall back” again.
The U.S. Senate has passed a bill co-sponsored by Washington Democrat Patty Murray and Florida Republican Marco Rubio to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.
“This past weekend, Americans from Washington State to Florida had to lose an hour of sleep for absolutely no reason,” said Murray. “This is a burden and a headache we don’t need.”
The bill passed the Senate by unanimous consent, which is a procedure in which a measure is passed without a formal vote but with no senators voicing opposition.
Murray spoke on the Senate floor and urged quick action by House members.
“Get this bill on President Biden’s desk and deliver sunshine to American across the country,” said Murray.
Washington State lawmakers passed a law in 2019 making Daylight Saving Time permanent, but the state can’t follow through with it without the change to federal law.
