BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Condolences are pouring in after a Bellingham mountain guide was killed during a climb.

RMI Expeditions announced the death of their guide, 26-year-old Luke Wilhelm, on their website earlier this month.

Wilhelm and another RMI guide were climbing Colonial Peak in the North Cascades on March 6th when he fell.

The other guide was able to get to safety.

In a tribute post on Climbing.com, Wilhelm was described as someone with contagious enthusiasm, but who was incredibly knowledgeable when it came to the outdoors.

One commenter on social media added that one of the best days of their life was spent with Wilhelm at the helm of an expedition at Mount Rainier.

Services for Wilhelm will be held in April in his home state of Maryland.
