SUMAS, Wash. – A third person has been arrested in connection with a Ferndale homicide that occurred earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the City of Ferndale said in a statement that 18-year-old Marcelo Rodriguez was arrested on Friday, March 25th, in Sumas.
Rodriguez is accused of helping murder suspect Miguel Angel Miranda escape Washington state after he shot and killed Jose Esquivel Hernandez on January 23rd.
Investigators say that Rodriguez took Miranda to his home in Lynden immediately after the shooting, then drove him down to Oregon.
Earlier this month, police arrested Miranda’s girlfriend, Kimberly Trujillo-Mendoza, who is also accused of helping Miranda evade capture.
Mendoza told investigators that she drove Miranda from Portland down to Arizona, where he was later caught.
Rodriguez has been charged with Rendering Criminal Assistance and is being held at the Whatcom County Jail on $250,000 bond.
