The IRS owes thousands of Washington state tax payers refunds, but those people are close to losing out.

The IRS says it owes more than $43 million in tax refunds to over 42,000 Washington residents who failed to file a federal return for 2018.

But those taxpayers have to file a 2018 return by this year’s April 18th tax deadline to get the money.

Federal law allows a three year window to file a return and get a refund or the money goes to the U.S. Treasury.

And those tax payers could be losing out on more as many low and middle income earners could be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

That could be worth more than $6400.
