MOUNT BAKER SKI AREA, Wash. – While the Mount Baker Ski Area is celebrating more than four feet of new snow from this week’s weather system, they’re also warning about the danger from avalanches.
Crews have been working hard on avalanche mitigation inside the ski area boundaries but none of that work has been done outside the ropes.
The Northwest Avalanche Center says the sudden change to sunny days and warmer weather can cause dangerous instability in the deep snow.
They predict very dangerous conditions in Whatcom County’s mountains.
