FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash. – A huge fire destroyed several historic buildings in the heart of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island early Thursday, April 8th.
San Juan County Fire spokesperson Kim Kimple says four businesses were impacted.
“Herb’s Tavern. That’s located there on the corner of Green and First Street,” said Kimple. “Next to Herb’s is Windermere and there’s a kayak rental facility and a coffee that have been impacted.”
Orcas Island Fire and Rescue and Lopez Island Fire also responded and were transported to Friday Harbor by state ferries.
The fire was reported at around 3:40 Thursday morning by a passing tow truck driver.
There were no injuries and no one was inside the buildings when the fire broke out.
The ATF has joined the investigation into the cause of the fire.
