BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Another section of Lake Whatcom will soon be in the hands of the City of Bellingham.

During a City Council meeting on Monday, April 11th, members unanimously approved a deal to buy 131 acres of land on the southern end of the lake.

The purchase is part of the city’s plan to preserve lands surrounding the watershed, which supplies water for many Bellingham residents.

The $351,000 deal was reached with CBC Brothers LLC, which currently owns that section of land.

In 2020, the city purchased a 125 acre area around the lake to prevent timber and logging companies from deforesting the region.
