COLUMBIA BASIN, Wash. – The host of a national wildlife TV show recently helped Fish and Wildlife crews count the population of a protected rabbit species in Central Washington.
Wildlife Nation host Jeff Corwin joined the annual count of tiny pygmy rabbits.
The tiny rabbits were once widespread in Central Washington but development and wildfire have decimated its habitat.
Their population is now minimal in just a few pockets in the Columbia River Basin.
Corwin will document recovery efforts for the species on an Earth Day episode of his show.
It will air on ABC on April 23rd.
