BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham Starbucks could be the next in line to unionize.

In a statement posted to Twitter, workers at the Iowa and King Street drive-thru location announced that they filed to unionize on April 15th.

Workers described an understaffed environment in the early days of the pandemic, as their store ran without a manager for several months.

The statement, addressed to interim Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, blamed him directly for not providing workers with a competitive pay rate.

If successful, the Iowa & King Starbucks would join a handful of other locations across the country that have also voted to form a union.

It would also become the second unionized location in Washington state.

In March, Seattle’s Broadway and Denny location voted unanimously to form a union.
