OLYMPIA, Wash. – If you’re a high school senior looking for a head start on career in public service, you’re in luck.
The Washington Department of Transportation announced on April 21st that they’re expanding the High School to Highways program to include applicants age 18 to 23.
The program is designed to give high school seniors and recent graduates the opportunity to join WSDOT’s maintenance team.
Selected applicants will go through the state’s maintenance academy, where they’ll learn how to use equipment and do repair work on potholes and guardrails.
They’ll also be offered a two-year mentorship and gain hands-on experience working on Washington state highways.
It’s not an internship.
Those picked for the program will become full-fledged employees.
Applications will be accepted until May 25th on the WSDOT website.
