WASHINGTON PASS, Wash. – Crews clearing the North Cascades Highway from the west and east are just a few miles from each other, but deep snow will keep them apart for a while.
WSDOT says the eastside crew reached Rainy Pass this week and found it covered in almost eight feet of snow.
An excavator is needed to knock the snow down to a level that the blower can clear.
Crews report another week of snow clearing is needed before they can begin repairs to the roadway.
No opening date is set for the stretch of Highway 20 over the North Cascades.
