Highway 20 opening for travel across the North Cascades

NEWHALEM, Wash. – The gates are about to swing open on the North Cascades Highway.

Annual spring clearing and repair work is done and WSDOT says the stretch of Highway 20 over the Cascades will open on Tuesday, May 10th, at 10 a.m.

Travelers should be prepared for wintery conditions remain and there are few rest stops or services.

Forest and Park Service facilities also remain closed.

Anyone venturing into the back country should be prepared and aware of the possibility of late spring and summer avalanches.
