OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee has appointed a former judge and prosecutor to oversee the state’s new independent office to review cases where police use deadly force.

Roger Rogoff is a former King County deputy prosecutor, Superior Court judge and assistant U.S. attorney.

The Legislature created the office at Inslee’s request as part of an ambitious package of police reform legislation last year.

It’s the first agency of its kind in the U.S.

It will be charged with conducting thorough investigations when police use deadly force, and could reopen old investigations if new evidence is found.
