BLAINE, Wash. – Blaine Police have arrested a suspect in a series of threats that caused Blaine schools to shut down for two days.

Three juveniles reported getting threatening messages on Friday, May 27th, that were similar to threats that prompted a district lockdown on Wednesday afternoon.

All of the threats were sent on a 3rd party app called “Text Now.”

Another juvenile reported receiving a threat early on Saturday, May 28th, and inconsistencies with the reporting boy’s story led investigators to determine that he was the suspect.

He admitted to sending all of the threats and said they were meant to be a prank.

Officers took the boy into custody at 1:22 a.m. Saturday and booked him into the Whatcom Juvenile Detention Center.

In addition to the Wednesday lockdown, Blaine Schools cancelled classes both Thursday and Friday because of the threats.

Blaine Schools superintendent Dr. Christopher Granger released a statement saying students and staff will be welcomed back on Tuesday, and that the Whatcom County Mobile Response team and Animals for Natural Therapy will be on hand to offer support.
