PULLMAN, Wash. – Some Washington universities were promised state funding for nursing programs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But some schools are raising concerns over why they didn’t get any funding.

The Spokesman-Review reports that the state Legislature provided more than $38 million to expand nursing programs statewide this year.

Western Washington University got just over $461,000 of that money to create a new master’s program for nurses.

And Eastern Washington University got $6.1 million to create a new four-year undergraduate program.

But Washington State University officials claim that they didn’t receive any funding to bolster their current programs.

Legislators said that the funds were allocated to schools based on enrollment needs, not necessarily program needs.
