SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. – Sedro-Woolley Police report a strange car chase that included the driver standing up while fleeing officers.

A Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy tried to pull the car over on Highway 20 on Wednesday, June 15th, for not having working taillights.

The driver drove off into Sedro-Woolley where officers picked up the chase.

The man stood up while driving at one point and officers thought he was standing in an open sun roof.

It turned out that the car had no windshield and the man was standing up through the opening.

He drove off the road and tried to flee but officers tackled him in a muddy field.

They arrested 28-year-old Gregory Hemminger Jr. for DUI and a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.

Hemminger has an extensive felony conviction record for sex crimes, auto theft and, yes, attempting to elude police.
