LASSEN COUNTY, California – The man suspected of shooting Ferndale business owner Douglas Scoggins to death has taken his own life.
Ferndale investigators were informed on Saturday, July 9th, that Todd Andersen told a family member in an email that he was in an area of Northern California that he had childhood connections to.
Lt. Dave Woginrich with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office says they got a warrant for the residence he was reported to be in, then deployed their SWAT and crisis negotiation teams.
“We arrive on scene and we contacted him. He was standing in the driveway and he saw us coming then he took off running away from us,” said Woginich. “Then we gave chase and located him to the back of the residence right on an embankment of a little creek or a river there. And he was holding a gun to his head.”
He then shot and killed himself.
Woginrich says the owners of the home were not there and no one else was inside.
Andersen worked at Pioneer Post and Frame on Portal Way years ago and walked into the business on Thursday, July 7th and shot Scoggins.
