WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash.- A legendary Whatcom County sports voice has died.

Former KPUG sportscaster Dick Stark passed away Tuesday following complications from a brain tumor

Stark was on the air for over 56 years, and was best known for his coverage of high school and college football and basketball.

Dick Stark graduated from Bellingham High School in 1952, and was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.

He got his radio start at KENY in 1960, hosting “Stark ‘Til Dark” on the city’s first pop-rock station.

Stark switched over to on-air duties on KPUG in 1962, where he remained until his retirement in 2018.

Outside of the broadcast booth, he also owned and operated Stark’s TV and Video in the 1980’s.

Stark was 88 years old.
