WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A heat advisory is in effect starting today, Tuesday, July 26th.

The National Weather Service says the heat advisory will take effect at noon.

Temperatures will reach the mid to upper 80’s in most of Whatcom County through at least Thursday.

But Lynden and Everson could see temperatures in the upper 90’s.

Officials are asking people to keep their outdoor activities to a minimum, wear light and loose fitting clothing, and to stay hydrated.

The CDC is also advising people to be aware of the symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Symptoms of heat exhaustion including excessive sweating, nausea, and dizziness.

People experiencing a heat stroke will also become confused and could fall unconscious.

If you suspect someone is having a heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

As the weather starts to heat up, don’t forget about your pets.

KIRO reports pets are especially prone to the dangers that come when temperatures spike.

Seattle-based pet insurance company Trupanion said it sees more than a 333% increase in heatstroke during the summer months.

Trupanion veterinarians say if you think your pet is experiencing it, you should move your animal to a cooler area and call your veterinarian immediately.

Vets say if you’re going to a dog park, pick the coolest hours of the day and never leave your pet unattended in the car.

Studies show that when it’s 85 degrees outside, your car can heat up to 120 degrees inside.
