MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – I-5 was closed for hours this morning, Wednesday, July 27th, in Mount Vernon after a semi struck and killed a pedestrian who had walked into a southbound lane.

The Washington State Patrol says the accident occurred at mile post 225 near the Anderson Road exit.

The semi was heading south when 62-year-old Larry Wagar of Sedro Woolley walked into traffic.

The semi driver was not able to stop in time and struck him.

Wagar was pronounced dead at the scene.
