OLYMPIA, Wash. – For anyone looking to head east of the Cascades for some outdoor fun, new fire restrictions went into effect on Friday, July 26th.

The Bureau of Land Management has prohibited the discharge of firearms except while engaged in a lawful hunt across Douglas, Grant, and Chelan counties.

Also effective on Friday, campfires have been banned in Lake Chelan Recreation Area and all parts of North Cascades National Park that are within Chelan County.

Campfires are allowed in the National Park outside of Chelan County, but only in established firepits.

The National Park Service wants to remind visitors to make sure the legal fires are out and cold to the touch before leaving the area.
