OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington State Ferries is getting a large chunk of change from the federal government.

The Federal Highway Administration has granted $38 million to improve ferry service across the state.

Eight other Washington ferry providers, including Whatcom County, will receive around $4 million in federal money.

Across the country, $172 million will be distributed to improve ferry services, marking the first major release of money since the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Washington state will receive the biggest allocation, followed by Alaska with $36 million.
