The Mariners fell 3-1 to the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon. The M’s got down early as the Nationals brought in one run in the first inning. The score remained at 1-0 until the 8th inning when Julio Rodriguez tied the game with a solo home run.

With the home run, Julio Rodriguez entered the 20/20 club with 20 homers and 20 steals. Rodriguez is the first Mariner to achieve that feat since Mike Cameron in 2002.

The Nationals scored on a two-run Ildemaro Vargas in the top of the ninth, and the M’s couldn’t match that in the bottom of the inning. The Nats finished the game with nine hits compared to the Mariners five hits. George Kirby pitched seven innings for the M’s finishing with 8 hits allowed and nine strikeouts.

The Mariners split their two games with the Nationals, winning game one 4-2.

Next up for Seattle is a series with the Cleveland Guardians.
