BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham City Council will hold a public hearing this Monday, August 29th, on a draft master plan to preserve and improve the Hundred Acre Wood.
The plan includes goals, allowed uses and strategies for the 112-acre park also known as the Chuckanut Community Forest.
Those include continuing to allow bikes and leashed dogs, restoring wetlands, and improving some trails while decommissioning others.
Community members worked for decades to protect the parcel south of Fairhaven Park from development.
Those efforts culminated with the city buying the property in 2011, using Greenways funds and a loan financed by a new park district.
That loan has been paid off and the park district will be dissolved.
