BELLINGHAM, Wash. – WECU is giving back to the community with a trio of donations to area nonprofit organizations.
The credit union is giving a total of $110,000 to the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association, the Pickford Film Center, and the Bellingham Childcare and Early Learning Center.
WECU spokesperson Keith Mader said that each year their company accepts applications for nonprofits in need of education funding.
Three to four finalists are selected to share the prize pool, which goes towards education materials or facilities upgrades over the course of two years.
Mader said that WECU was founded by Bellingham teachers in 1936.
The initiative was created to honor their founders and to cultivate educational opportunities within the community.
