SAN JUAN ISLANDS, Wash. – The recovery of the seaplane that crashed off Whidbey Island will begin later this month.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the U.S. Navy will work together to recover the wreckage of the plane from the bottom of Mutiny Bay.
The plane carrying ten people crashed into the water while flying from Friday Harbor to Renton on September 4th.
No one survived and just one body has been recovered.
The recovery operation will use a remotely operated vehicle , a barge and a crane to raise the plane that is 190 feet below the surface.
The drone will collect smaller items from the seafloor.
The operation is expected to begin on September 26th.
