STEVENS PASS, Wash. – Highway 2 could re-open over the Cascades as soon as Monday, September 26th.

WSDOT says the road remains closed between mileposts 36 and 49 due to hazardous conditions caused by the Bolt Creek Fire.

Firefighters are patrolling the area and still encountering flare-ups and trees continue to fall onto the highway.

Crews have removed 200 trees on and along the highway so far.

Most of the fire fighting objectives have been reached but the terrain is keeping crews from completely containing the fire.

It’s expected to burn for weeks until a seasonal change in the weather helps put it out.
