BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The City of Bellingham is the latest local organization warning residents about a scam.
Residents have reported receiving calls from people claiming to be city officials and requesting personal information.
The callers manipulate caller ID to make it look like they are using official city phones.
Bellingham Police say you should never give personal or sensitive information to unexpected or suspicious callers.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from a company or government agency, hang up and call the organization to verify its authenticity.
Also, make sure you contact your local police department if you are the victim of fraud or identity theft.
