BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Democrats are ahead following the first count of votes in the 42nd legislative district.

Sharon Shewmake leads Simon Sefzik for state senate 51-49%.

Incumbent Democrat Alicia Rule is ahead in the race for state House Position 1 52-48 % over Tawsha Dykstra Thompson

For state House Position 2, Democrat Joe Timmons leads Republican Dan Johnson 52-48%

Whatcom voters are rejecting a levy lid lift for a Childrens’ Initiative.

It’s behind by roughly 52 to 48%.

Voters are heavily favoring a levy for emergency medical service in the county with 64% supporting it.

And Democrats are dominant in the 40th District which includes part of Bellingham and southern Whatcom County, along with part of Skagit and all of San Juan County.

Democratic incumbents Debra Lekanoff and Alex Ramel are ccomfortably ahead in races to keep their state House seats with each getting over 70% of the vote.

Democrats Clyde Shavers and Dave Paul are leading in their state House races in the 10th District that encompasses Island and parts of Skagit and Snohomish Counties.

Republicans are doing well in the 39th District that covers the bulk of eastern Skagit and Snohomish Counties.

Second District U.S. Representative Rick Larsen is comfortably ahead in his race over challenger Dan Matthews.

Democratic U.S. Senator Patty Murray has won re-election over her Republican challenger Tiffany Smiley 57-43%.

Another count will be announced at about 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, November 9th.
