WASHINGTON, D.C., – The Department of Homeland Security has once again extended the deadline for REAL ID compliance.

They have pushed it back from next May 3rd to May 7th, 2025.

The extension means Washington residents with standard driver’s licenses or IDs can continue to use them to fly domestically until the new deadline.

Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005.

It requires states to issue drivers licenses and ID cards with enhanced security and using advanced checks to make sure a person is who they claim to be.

Air travelers from Washington will need an enhanced driver’s license or state ID or a U.S. Passport to fly domestically after the new deadline.
