BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Volunteers are urgently needed to help operate emergency shelters in Bellingham and Ferndale.
Whatcom County has partnered with Road2Home and Ferndale Community Services to provide shelter for those in need.
Their emergency shelters have operated 23 days since November 7th and have sheltered almost 1,000 people.
The Opportunity Council’s Homeless Outreach Team is also out contacting individuals to inform them of where they can find shelter.
Various community groups are also providing warm clothing, sleeping bags and energy-rich foods to those who aren’t comfortable going to a shelter.
Volunteers are needed to keep the emergency facilities running.
Warming shelters are open through Friday night, December 23rd, at the Civic Field locker rooms in Bellingham, and up in Ferndale at the United Church on Washington Street.
