WASHINGTON, D.C. – A handful of projects benefitting communities in Whatcom County will be receiving more funding after Congress passed its federal budget for 2023.
Representatives Suzan DelBene and Rick Larsen submitted their proposals in May to be considered in the $1.7 trillion budget, which passed House and Senate votes last week.
Five of those projects are based in Whatcom County, and they will all receive funding now that President Biden has signed off on the federal budget.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office will get $500,000 to implement an integrated public safety radio system.
Another $450,000 is heading to WWU for educational programs and commercial appliances at its Longhouse.
A Civic Campus proposed for the City of Ferndale will get $750,000 in federal funds.
Northwest Indian College’s future health and wellness center will get $2 million.
And the WTA is also getting $2 million for three new electric buses and chargers.
