MOUNT VERNON, WA. – (KGMI.com) Skagit County is among the recipients of over $4 million in grants coming to Washington to help with reentry for those involved in the criminal justice system.
The U.S. Department of Justice is awarding the bulk of the funds to the Washington State Department of Corrections.
The DOC will receive $1.8 million for programs that aim to help incarcerated people with returning to the community after being released from custody.
Skagit County is receiving $650,000 for its Community Court.
The program connects low-level, non-violent offenders to mental health and substance abuse services.
