ANDERSON, WASH. – NOAA says a yearling humpback whale found dead in Puget Sound got stranded on Anderson Island.
An initial necropsy shows the animal was emaciated with no obvious signs of disease.
Scientists say the stranding of humpback whales in Puget Sound is a fairly new phenomenon.
They say it’s likely the result of increased population numbers.
