OLYMPIA, WASH. Governor Jay Inslee gets a briefing on efforts to increase farm acreage in Washington.
Steve Jones with Washington State University spokeĀ about the loss of farmland throughout Western Washington.
“Besides losing farm ground, which we do in the west from development and other issues, we also lose farm land from neglect. If you look at San Juan County, Island County, most of the counties south of Skagit from Snohomish down, you have a lot of abandoned dairies and things like that,” Jones says.
This is a part of the Governor’s “Results Washington Initiative,” launched in 2013, which tracks progress in various sectors across the state and looks at ways for the government to be more effective and efficient.
