OLYMPIA, WASH – Opposition to Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch is coming from both of our state’s Democratic Senators.
Senator Patty Murray is worried about women’s rights.
“These deeply conservatives records suggests he can’t be trusted to stand up for women’s constitutionally-protected health care rights or access to care. In fact, it seems clear he will work to weaken those rights at every opportunity,” Murray says.
Senator Maria Cantwell is concerned about the LGBTQ community.
“Judge Gorsuch also has ruled against LGBTQ individuals seeking fair and nondiscriminatory treatment,” Cantwell says.
Cantwell also says groups have called Gorsuch’s record “openly hostile towards the LGBTQ people.”
Murray and Cantwell also testified against the so-called “nuclear option” that would change senate rules to stop a Democratic filibuster.
Republicans say Gorsuch will be confirmed on Friday one way or another.
