SEATTLE, Wash – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Evan Marshall from AAA Tacoma. Outfielder Boog Powell has been reinstated to AAA Tacoma. To make room on the Major League 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Casey Fien has been outrighted to AAA Tacoma.
Marshall (#41) will be available for tonight’s 7:10 game against the Houston Astros at Safeco Field.
Marshall appeared in one game with AAA Tacoma, striking out two in 0.2 innings after being claimed off waivers from Arizona on April 4. He was designated for assignment on March 28 after posting a 3.38 ERA in six Cactus League appearances with Arizona.
Powell hit .577 with 9 runs and 6 RBI in 16 Spring Training games. He hit .270 with 27 RBI in 64 games with AAA Tacoma before receiving an 80-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program on June 23, 2016.
Fien was 0-0 with an 11.12 ERA with 5 strikeouts in 5 appearances with Seattle this season.
