OLYMPIA, WASH. – A bill to fix the Department of Corrections hits a roadblock in Olympia.

Senator Mike Padden introduced the bill after the accidental early release of thousands of prisoners.

He says the releases had been going on for years before and after the Department of Corrections received notice of them.

Among other things, the bill would strengthen whistle-blower protections.

The Seattle Times reports the Senate passed it, but it missed a deadline in the House.

The bill can be reconsidered among the budget before the session ends April 23.
