OLYMPIA, WASH. (AP) – The Legislature started a 30-day special session Monday.

Republican Senator Dino Rossi hopes it doesn’t take too long.

“[We’re] just trying to bring this to a resolution, because we all have other lives,” Rossi says.

Lawmakers still need to tackle the two-year state budget, which must comply with a state Supreme Court order to fully fund education.

Most of the Legislature’s 147 members are back in their home districts – just budget negotiators are back at the Capitol.

So far, there has been no progress on negotiating the overall budget.

But, a group of bipartisan lawmakers have been meeting separately to discuss the education funding piece.
