BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Ferndale man is dead and police said his son killed him.

Ferndale Police went to the 6100 block of Grouse Circle on Tuesday, April 26, after a person called about not seeing William Koop for a couple of weeks.

Investigators said William’s son, Christopher, 39, confessed to killing his father on the Thursday before Easter.

Officers found William’s body in the garage.

Police said Christopher admitted to knocking his father unconscious during a fight and then hitting him with a hammer, flashlights and part of a telephone.

Christopher told officers he also tried to suffocate William before leaving him to die.

He started digging a hole in the back yard with the plan of burying his father.

The two men lived together in the home.
