OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – A pilot program to license outdoor preschool and child care programs is set to begin in our state.
40th District State Senator Kevin Ranker sponsored legislation to make it happen and Governor Inslee signed the bill Thursday.
“Thanks Senator Ranker, Representative Kagi, for finding creative solutions to child care shortage and for your support of innovative programs like this.”
The measure directs the state Department of Early Learning to set up a program to license full-time nature-based preschools.
Ranker says the legislation will help children get outdoors at an early age.
Supporters also say it will provide affordable options for parents because brick-and-mortar classrooms aren’t required.
