OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – A new state law allows local governments to evict residents from certain buildings contaminated by methamphetamine.
Problems with Burlington’s Sterling Motor Inn prompted the bill.
Governor Inslee signed the legislation that allows evictions if there is contamination from the use of hazardous chemicals.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the Burlington motel had high levels of methamphetamine contamination, but the county didn’t have the legal authority to evict residents.
