OLYMPIA, WASH. (AP) – A bill that seeks to protect vulnerable adults from theft and neglect is on its way to becoming law.

Governor Jay Inslee signed the measure that creates a new crime of theft involving a vulnerable adult – any person mentally or physically unable to care for themselves.

“[It’s to] help fight the growing crime of financial exploitation of seniors and people with disabilities,”

The new statute adds close to a year to the potential jail sentence.
