OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – Washington is now one of more than two dozen states in compliance with federal identification requirements.

Governor Inslee signed a bill that ends years of legislative struggle over the best way to adhere to a 2005 federal law.

“…Bring the state into compliance with the Federal Real ID act. It provides Washingtonians the choice of obtaining a more affordable enhanced drivers licence or an enhanced ID card that is Real ID compliant.”

The Real-ID Act requires driver’s licenses and ID cards to be issued to people who can prove they are in the United States legally.

The cards must also have other security enhancements.

The change means people in our state won’t have to worry about what documents to bring to the airport next year for air travel.
